Pg. 1 cover) Our Digital Footprint
Pg. 2) A digital footprint is a footprint we leave online.
It is not the kind of footprint you might leave when you walk in the snow or sand.
A digital footprint never disappears.
Pg. 3) Every time we are online, we leave a trail of digital footprints.
This means that we create a digital footprint every time we:
- search the Internet for information
- send an email to a friend
- play a game
- chat online
Pg. 4) Cookies are files that store information.
For example, a cookie can store whether you visit a website or the kinds of buttons we clicked on.
The more we are online, the more information gets stored about what we like to do online.
Pg. 5) So, what does all this mean?
We need to be safe, responsible, and respectful.
This means that we should be careful about:
- what kind of information we share
- who we talk with online
- which websites we use to find information
Pg. 6) Here are some things you can do to leave a positive digital footprint:
- Use kind words when chatting or messaging with your friends and family.
- Don’t share private information. Private information includes things like your full name, address, phone number, age, and school.
- Think before you click. This means that before you visit a website, post a comment or share photos, think about whether this is a safe choice. If you have questions or need help, ask a trusted adult!
- Share positive things about yourself, like your hobbies and interests, instead of your private information.
