Exercise helps us feel good

Think about what happens to your body when you are physically active.

Do you notice what happens to your body when you are active? How do you feel?

Explore this video entitled “Exercise” to learn more about how exercise can help us feel good.

Today we will pay attention to our bodies. Your heart is always beating and pumping blood to the muscles and the rest of your body. This makes your heart and lungs strong. This keeps you healthy.

Safety

Before you begin:

Warm up

Let’s begin by warming up and being active for 60 seconds. Choose any exercise (e.g., running on the spot, skipping, arm circles, playing with a ball) and start the timer or count to 60.

What are some of the changes you notice in your body? Is your heart pumping faster? Or are you feeling thirsty? Are you smiling?

Being active has many benefits. When you are active you have more energy to do fun things. Some things you can do is play with others, go for a walk, ride your bike, or dance.

Explore the following carousel of images for different ways we can feel while we are active.

Action

Balancing animals

In the Minds On we explored how being active is important for your body. Our hearts start to pump quicker because our bodies need more energy. Being active keeps us healthy.

There are different ways we can be active, both indoors and outdoors. Indoors, you may want to dance, play broom hockey, stretch, balance, or do an indoor obstacle course. Outdoors, you may want to go for a walk, visit the playground, or swim.

Let’s continue being active while we try out a new game: Balancing Animals

Safety reminder

Remember to perform your safety check before you begin.

In this activity, you will move freely and then stop and try to balance in different ways. You will balance like a certain type of animal.

Step 1:

Wait for the music or signal that will tell you when to start. You can move in whichever way you would like.

Step 2:

When the music stops or when there is a second signal, you will be asked to balance like a certain type of animal. You can decide how that animal would balance, it’s up to you!

There is no wrong way to balance. Let’s think, how does a flamingo appear when balancing? A frog? A dog? Let’s have fun!
