Think-Pair-Share

Think about these questions about DPA and, if possible, share your answers with a partner.

  • What does DPA mean to you?
  • How do you feel when you don't have daily physical activity?
  • What are your favourite DPA activities?
  • What don't you like about DPA?

Note to teachers: See your teacher guide for collaboration tools, ideas and suggestions.

Can you think of some reasons why DPA is important? How does it help you? DPA, for example, gets us ready to learn. Use the mind map to record your ideas.

Complete the Why DPA Mind Map in your notebook or using the following fillable and printable document. If you would like, you can use speech-to-text or audio recording tools to record your thoughts.

DPA

There is a lot of research on the benefits of being active every day, for twenty minutes, especially when we do moderate to vigorous activity.

Why do you participate in DPA?

Press ‘DPA Reasons’ to access reasons to participate in DPA.

We participate in DPA because DPA…
  • makes us happy
  • gets us ready to learn
  • supports our mental health
  • creates positive relationships with our friends and family

Now, choose two to four physical activities that you enjoy doing. If possible, do them again now. If not, reflect on the last time you did them. Using the checklist, choose what makes you happy when you do these physical activities.

What makes me happy about DPA

Design a DPA

You are going to create a daily physical activity that you can do anywhere and anytime at a moderate or vigorous level of intensity. The movements need to be without equipment and be able to be done in a limited space like in the learning space. For example, your daily physical activities may be running, wheeling your wheelchair to music, skipping to music, doing a light warm-up aerobic activity before stretching. Be creative and choose a DPA that you enjoy doing.

As you design your DPA, follow the guidelines in the checklist.

It is time to check and showcase your learning.

For each statement about DPA, select whether it is true or false.

Compare DPA schedules

Now, compare the two DPA schedules displayed in the following table. Which schedule do you believe would be more effective? Why?

Record your thoughts using a method of your choice. If possible, share your thoughts with someone else.

Review and compare the two different DPA schedules.
