Minds On
Motivation
The willingness of someone to do something. That is the definition of motivation. What motivates us to do things? People? Feelings? Rewards?

Consider this scenario:
A group of grade 8 students want to have a party to celebrate graduation. The principal requires 5 teachers to supervise the party for safety reasons. Only 2 teachers have volunteered to help. The students will have to recruit 3 teachers. How could they do that? What would they say to convince the teachers? What would be their motivation to get the teachers to agree?

How can these motivating factors influence people to do something? Does there have to be a benefit for someone to be motivated?
Action
What’s the point?
Why are we motivated to do some things but not motivated to do other things? What is it that makes us WANT to do or have something? Feeling motivated means that we are excited to put a plan into action to accomplish a goal. When we don’t feel motivated, it keeps us from getting anything done.
When it comes to physical activity, there are a lot of factors that motivate our participation.
Consider the following factors. Are they factors that motivate or not? Respond either True or False. Select the correct answer, then press “Check Answer” to see how you did.
Motivators are POSITIVE outcomes that result from the effort given to an activity. There are strategies or tips that we can use to encourage ourselves and others to apply our very best effort to an activity. Consider the tips in the Tips to Motivate document. Add two more to the list in your notebook or using the following fillable and printable document. If you would like, you can use speech-to-text or audio recording tools to record your thoughts.

Consolidation
Be a motivator!
By being active, you can be a good role model and influence others. Sometimes by simply participating, you can motivate others to join in. Everyone has their own reason for not participating in physical activity. What can you do to encourage others to be physically active?
Your task is to create a campaign to promote physical activity. You may choose to record your information in digital, audio, or print form.
Be sure to include:
- ways to motivate someone to participate in physical activity
- benefits of being physically active
- images or descriptions
- share what motivates you to be physically active
