Comparing images
Here are two images of a giraffe. One is a photograph and the other is a drawing that somebody made.
This type of drawing is called an animation. It can also be called a cartoon.
Explore the following two images and the audio clips that describe these images.

Action
Media texts as animation
A drawing can be an animation or cartoon, but animation can also be videos. In these videos, animals and objects can talk and act like people.
Videos are media texts. Media texts are made to share information about something.
Media texts can be made and shared in real life. Posters, billboards, videos, or audio are examples of media texts that can be shared with people.
Can we create a picture frame with 4 pictures within? One would be an image of a billboard, a second would be a poster, a third would be a tablet with a video on it, and the fourth would be a device with headphones and a music note on it (representing a podcast).
Media texts can also be made in animated pictures, books, and videos.
Media texts share information about many things, like:
- things you can buy
- places you can go
- lessons you can learn
- people you can learn about
ABC with Kenny G
Let's check out an example of animation. We are going to explore a video with Kenny G the cat.
In this video, we are given information that teaches us about the letter S.
Who watches animation? Who do you think this was made for? Why?

Comparing media texts
Let’s compare two different media texts that teach about the letters and numbers.
When we compare, we think about what is the same and what is different about the two media texts.
Here is the animated video that we explored before.
This is a video that is not animated that explores the number 1.
If you had to recommend one of these videos to a friend who wanted to learn about the number one, which video would you recommend? Why?
