Prediction game
A prediction is like a guess. When we don’t know for sure, but we make a guess, that is a prediction.
Let’s play a game and guess what happens next!
Imagine that someone has entered a room…
- They pick up a book
- Next, they put on their reading glasses
- Then, they sit down on a stool, with the book in their lap
In the kitchen there is a chef…
- They are taking different food items out of the fridge and putting them on the counter
- They are taking out a pot, a knife, and a cutting board
Were you able to guess correctly? We use clues to help us make predictions - what the person was doing and our background knowledge.
We can make many different types of predictions:
- events in the story
- how characters are feeling
- the end of the story
- what the story is about
- why the author wrote the story
What other types of predictions can we make?
