Student Success

Think-Pair-Share

If possible, with a partner examine the images and video below. For each one, notice how you feel while viewing it.

Is there a message in each image? If so, what do you think it is?

Note to teachers: See your teacher guide for collaboration tools, ideas and suggestions.

How does this image make you feel?

Now that you have examined the images, how did they make you feel? What is the message? Who do you think they were made for (kids, parents, teachers, grandparents)?

Do you know what these types of images are called? They are called advertisements.

Action

Elements of an advertisement

In this lesson, we will explore what is in an advertisement and how to create one.

Compare the two advertisements. Which one do you think is a better advertisement? Explain your thinking. If possible, discuss with a partner.

Some things you may have noticed:

  • a title
  • a message
  • information and details to support the message
  • colour, text, images, and symbols

Advertisements are created for different reasons. In this case, the advertisement was created to share information about the Tumbletown Street Festival.
