Brainstorm

Applying understanding

To build on our understanding of earning money and math you are going to work towards solving two questions. You can work alone or with a partner to work out the problems.

A baker gets $5.00 every time he bakes a cake for a customer. He wants to buy a new cake pan which costs $22.00.

1. How many times will the baker need to bake a cake in order to earn enough money to buy the pan?

How will you figure it out?

2. If the baker has $25.00 and he buys the pan for $22.00, will he have money left over?

How do you know?

Record your thoughts and responses in an audio recording, on paper, or on a computer.

Consolidation

Deepening your understanding

Your turn!

The baker has saved enough money to buy new pans. Now you will create your word problem of your own where a student must save money to buy something that is needed for school (e.g., backpack, basketball, indoor shoes, etc.). You can create using paper, on the computer, a descriptive audio clip, speech to text software, or a method of your choice to show your knowledge.
