Imagine that you want to buy a snack for a group of friends or family from a vending machine. The vending machine only sells chocolate bars and chips. A chocolate bar sells for $2 and a bag of chips sells for $3.

  • How many people are you buying for?
  • What item will you buy for each person?
  • What will be the total cost be for everyone to receive one item from the vending machine?

Invite family members to shop at your store using real or pretend coins and bills. Invite them to purchase a few items and practice giving them change. How much money did you make at your store?
