Planning a fundraiser

Imagine that your community centre or school has decided to have a fundraiser. They would like to support a local charity.

Fundraiser: An event where people donate, sell and buy items. The money made during a fundraiser can go towards supporting a charity, group or organization.

What might be some important steps to prepare for a fundraiser?

Craft sale

Your class or community group has decided to hold a craft sale to fundraise for a local charity. Different members have volunteered to create crafts.

As a group, you have decided to make flowerpots, stuffed toys, and beaded jewelry.

Step 1: Purchasing materials

Your group has everything for the stuffed animals and the painted flowerpots. However, beads and strings for the jewelry will need to be purchased.

The group has given you some money to go purchase materials.

At the store, you buy 2 packs of beads for $6 each and 1 roll of string for $2.

You give the cashier a $20 bill.

How much change will they give you?
