In many parts of Canada, including Ontario, we experience big differences in weather according to the season. The temperature can be very hot in the summer and very cold in the winter. There is much less sunlight in winter and much more in summer.

When we go outside, we need to choose the right clothing for the season and the weather.

Summer clothing is designed to protect our bodies from the sun. Winter clothing is designed to keep us warm and dry.

Using Scratch Jr.

If possible, let’s try using Scratch Jr, a coding app that can help us learn and practise block coding.

SCRATCH Jr is a program that can be used to write code. Each block contains a step or an instruction for the computer program to follow.

Thinking about other places

In Canada, there tends to be a big difference in seasons. Can you think of anywhere in the world where there may not be much of a difference between seasons, or no change in seasons at all? Do you think they would need to have as many different kinds of clothing ready to wear for different times of the year?

In some other parts of the world (like the Arctic where it’s always cool or cold, or the Caribbean where it’s always warm or hot) the weather stays more or less the same all year round. The people who live there don’t need to have as many different types of clothing because the weather is very similar from day to day.
