How we act
A child with 2 thought bubbles. First bubble is an illustration of them at school interacting with others. Second bubble is an illustration of them at home playing a video game with another child.
Choose one of the following questions to answer:
- How do you behave at school? How do you behave at home? Are they the same or different?
- How do you talk with a community member? How do you talk with a friend? Are they the same or different?
You can share your ideas using a voice recorder, speech-to-text, or writing tool.
Action
Task 1: Library vs. playground

Task 2: How to act in various places
Think about it
What might happen if you acted the same way in a gym or playground area as you would in your home or classroom?
Roleplay cards
For this next task, you can play on your own or with a partner if you have one.
Each card will share a place you might go to or a special event you may go to.
How would you behave at this event or place? How it is different from how you act at school or home?
Record your answers using a method of your choice or share your ideas with a partner, if possible.
Press the event or location to reveal each roleplay card.
At the swimming pool
Roleplay playing at the swimming pool. How do you behave at the swimming pool? How is it different from how you behave in the classroom?
Speaking with family
Roleplay explaining a new game or movie you love. How do you share it with an adult family member? How is it different from how you share it with a younger child?
At a sports event or activity
Roleplay attending a sports event or fun activity. How do you behave at the event? How is it different from how you behave in the classroom or at home?
At the library
Roleplay asking the librarian a question about a new book. How would you speak differently to the librarian than you would a friend?
Consolidation
Task 1: Roleplay presentations
Lights, camera, action! Let’s use the roleplay cards again!
This time, you will be acting out how you will behave in the two situations.
You may choose to create a video recording of your roleplay, or you could make a comic strip to share how you would change the way you act.
Task 2: Relationship reflection
When we are with our friends, we act one way. When we are with our teacher, we act a different way. Think about the following questions:
- Do you act the same or differently with your family and your friends? Why do you think that is?
- How does it show responsibility when we behave differently with various people and in various places?

In every relationship, we can have different roles and responsibilities.
A student made a poster. It is a list of six different relationships that he has. It also shares his roles in each of them.
My relationships
I am a son to my father.
I am a brother to my sister.
I am a nephew to my aunt and uncle.
I am a student to my teacher.
I am a friend to my classmates.
I am a neighbour to my neighbourhood.
It’s time to make your own relationship poster. In your poster, be sure to make a list of your relationships. Be sure to add the different roles you have.
