Climate and the Earth

At the equator, the sun shines directly on the area during the year, which makes this area hot all year long.

The North Pole (north tip of the Earth) and South Pole (south tip of the Earth) don’t get direct sun, so they are cold all year long.

As you move north from the Equator to the North Pole, it gets colder.

As you move south from the Equator to the South Pole, it also gets colder.

This is a map of the world with all 7 continents and all 5 oceans labelled. The map also shows the Equator, which is, in real life, an invisible line dividing the world into the North and South Hemispheres.
