Brainstorm

Brainstorm

  • What kind of physical activities do you participate in?
  • Why is it important to be physically active every day?
  • How can you make sure that you are participating to the best of your ability in activities?

Action

Stay on target

Some of the physical activities in which you are involved may be: lead-up and small-group games, recreational activities, cooperative games, fitness activities, dance activities. Do you participate in any of these types of activities in your community?

Use the checklist to mark the reasons for which being involved in physical activity is important for you.

Participating

Activity: Time out!

Safety

Before you begin:

Move however you choose: skipping, dancing, running, burpees, etc. Set a timer for 20, 30 or 40 seconds (or more) and keep moving to the best of your ability. Then, rest. Then, change the time or the movement and keep track of which ones you are enjoying and why.

Pause and Reflect

Pause and reflect

  • Did you participate to the best of your ability the whole time you chose?
  • Was it difficult for you?
  • How did it make you feel, physically and emotionally?

Activity: Motivation

Recognize that some days when we are not feeling well, it is difficult to participate to the best of our ability. Trying to participate when we do not feel motivated helps us improve our physical and mental health, build healthy relationships, develop self-control, to be flexible and be open minded, and to discover activities that we enjoy so that we can make choices to be active even when we are adults.

What motivates people to be active? What motivates you to be active? Use the checklist to choose what motivates you to be active and then record your reasons to be motivated.
